Colesville, New York
Colesville Township is located in the northeast corner of Broome County, bordered to the north by Chenango County. It was formed on April 3, 1821 from the Town of Windsor. Its namesake is Nathaniel Cole, pioneer and revolutionary soldier. He settled the area in 1795, on what is now known as Coles Hill, and opened the first tavern between Albany and Binghamton. Nathaniel Cole Park was opened in 1974. It’s population is an estimated 5,000 people.
Harpursville is the largest hamlet in the Town of Colesville, although it is not incorporated. The Harpursville United Methodist Church has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 2006.
Of Historic Significance in the Town of Colesville are Robert Harpur, Nathaniel Cole, The Historical Museum, The Doraville Schoolhouse, and The Ouaquaga Bridge as a Heritage Site!
